We are a dealer of Masterfeeds. At Masterfeeds, they use a combination of quality ingredients and years of experience to provide the horse owner with a variety of feed options.
- Breeding and Growing
Breeding and Growing
Reproduction affects the horse's energy needs. Stallions require more energy during breeding season because their exercise increases.
- 16 Percent Mare and Foal
A pelleted ration designed primarily for mares in their third trimester or lactating, breeding stallions, and growing foals.
- 17 Percent Frisky Foal
A pelleted ration formulated for nursing foals, weanlings, and up to one year of age to encourage proper growth and development.
- Equine developer
Equine Developer pellets are formulated for balanced growth and reduction of developmental problems in growing years, from weaning up to two years.
- Maintenance Feeds
Maintenance Feeds
Energy needs vary depending on the horse's physiological state and activity level, and environmental conditions. The maintenance energy requirement refers to the energy needed to maintain a consistent body weight for the non-working horse.
At present, there is no quantifiable age-specific decrease in maintenance energy needs. However, dental problems often arise for the older horse, making it necessary to change the form of feed, such as a processed, complete feed containing extruded ingredients.
The following is a list of the maintenance feeds we carry.
- 12 Percent Complete
This all-in-one complete ration is designed for mature horses when the supply of hay is limited or needs to be restricted.
- Krunch Cube 16 Percent
A complete ration formulated for breeding and growing horses, or any situation requiring weight gain.
- Golden Years 16 Percent Cube
A cubed horse ration, formulated to balance the specific needs of the geriatric horse and pony.
- Performance and Training
Performance Feeds
If your horse is getting a lot of exercise, its digestible energy (DE) requirement will be above maintenance level. The horse's DE needs will vary depending on its condition, type of training, ability, weight of rider and tack, level of fatigue, environmental conditions (temperature and humidity) and diet. In general, the horse's DE requirements are based on estimates of activity level, such as light, medium and intense work. Examples of light work are riding, showing, training for Western/English pleasure and equitation, and bridle path hack. Medium or moderate work includes ranch, short bouts (roping, cutting, barrel racing and jumping). And intense work might include race training, polo, and polocrosse.
The following are a list of performance feeds we carry.
- Patriot 12 Percent Surmount
This pelleted ration contains increased fat and fibre levels. Patriot 12% Surmount can be fed in growing, traing, racing, eventing and showing. It offers flexibility and versatility to all horse disciplines.
- Exactor Lite
A textured energy ration for the race and sport horses, in competition, requiring concentrated energy from fat and beet pulp to sustain performance, weight gain and power. Also recommended for horses with gastrointestinal upsets and stomach ulcers.
- Patriot Podium Horse Pellets
A high fat, high fibre, low starch ration balanced and formulated to meet the demands of the performance horse. Also ideal for horses with cushings, metabolic problems, digestive upsets, and horses that tie up.
- Fusion
This cubed ration contains 7% fat from all vegetable sources. It has a reduced level of starches and sugars, which provides "cool" calories. It is very high in digestible fibre, and it contains flax. It works as a digestive aid and gut stabilizer, maximizing digestion.
- Texturized Feeds
Texturized Feeds
Texturized, or textured, feeds refer to grain mixes, usually with a small amount of sweet flavouring added. The sweet flavour is usually molasses, which improves palatability, decreases dustiness and binds the grains together. Sweet feeds are popular with the "hard keepers".
- Patriot 12 Percent Sweet Feed
A texturized sweet grain ration, intended for the pleasure/recreational horse involved in breeding, growing or training. Rolled feed improves digestibility over whole grains and the molasses will improve intake if you have a picky eater.
- Patriot 16 Percent Sweet Feed
A textured sweet grain ration, similar to the 12% Sweet Feed, but designed for horses needing a slighty higher protein.
- Supplements
Supplements
Supplements are feed additives used to increase the amount of a specific nutrient or nutrients in the diet. Four common types of supplements are protein, vitamins, mineral and a combination of all three. A protein supplement may be recommended for horses that are lactating or in later stages of pregnancy or for growing horses. Additional protein may be required if a horse's hay supply is of a low feed value. If a horse does not receive the correct amount of vitamins in his feed, or does not synthesize the vitamin in his body, he may need vitamin supplementation. Mineral supplements are more frequently required than vitamin supplements. Calcium, phosphorus, sodium, chloride, and iodine are the most commonly deficient minerals in a horse's diet.
- Patriot Finishing Touch
Flax based high fat, top dress that can be added to any feed ration for a little something extra.
- VTM 20
Highly fortified ration balanced to be fed alone or with any feed ration as a complete source of vitamins and minerals.
- Flax Seed
Flax seed is an increasingly popular option for adding fat to your horse's diet, due to its omega-3 content. It can also be helpful in "shedding out" your horse.
- Beet Pulp
- Wheat Bran
- Hay Cubes
Horses with chronic respiratory allergies, dental problems, and very elderly horses can benefit from hay cubes. Often, horses prefer to chew things that are hard and crunchy, but for the elderly toothless horse, hay cubes soaked in a bit of water make them much easier to chew. Regardless of whether they are soaked, processed hay cubes have the advantage of being less dusty than hay, so horses with respiratory problems can also benefit significantly when they are provided with their hay in a cube form.
- Alfalfa Cubes
A constistant nutrient quality and an excellent source of highly digestible energy, protein, minerals, vitamins and fibre that are easy to transport with little waste.
- Salt
Salt regulates all of the fluids in the horse's body. It conducts the electrical impulses of the muscles and nerves. Salt is the most important electrolyte, which refers to a mineral lost in sweat and urine. As such, it should be increased when a horse is exercising hard. Luckily, horses that are provided with salt in the form of a block or lick will almost always ingest the amount that they need.
- Bird Seed
feedneeds.com also has bird seed for the birds around your farm in the winter. We have different types of seed to attract a variety of birds(and squirrels) to the feeder. So next time you need to pick up some hay, horse supplements, dog or cat food you can also get your bird seed as well.
